I find it hard to defend myself. All the fucking time. It’s a logical consequence when your ideals are far from the common views and ordinary standards. These lyrics are written concerning animal liberation, but the same goes for any other subject. Be it anarchist living, a world without borders and freedom of movement or the rejection of property.
The most interesting arguments come to mind when discussing the topic of animal liberation. And also (unfortunately not in a lesser extent) the dumbest accusations and irritating cliché questions. This song is not about staying polite and answering all these questions in a politically correct way. It’s not about defending animal liberation while being called a tree-hugging-grass-eating-hippy-terrorist.
After having heard all the arguments and all the questions for such a long time, it’s time to turn the tables. I don’t have to defend myself why I want to not eat something. Explain to me why a person is responsible for the killing of millions of innocent creatures. Explain to me why he/she is supporting an money hungry industry which is polluting the earth. Explain to me what is so fucking natural about drinking the breastmilk of a different species when the calves are taken from their mothers and killed or abused….
And that’s my point. In this Western capitalist civilization; there’s no single argument for animal abuse, no matter how many books Lierre Keith is writing about it. So go ahead and discuss all you want about organic meat, painless vivisection and the fun animals are having at circuses. But please leave me out of it. I’ll waste my time doing other shit that I still the illusion it adds a constructive contribution to a somewhat more pleasant world. For all species that is.
lyrics
What do you expect? When you ask me to put my dreams asleep? To drink my boiling blood and eat my children’s flesh?
It’s about time that we put the waiting on hold. I call for every living romantic to give up on their fucking love.
Let it all go. Let it all slip away. I have no patience for small talk liars and cold hearted sympathies.
Do. Or don’t.
But don’t fucking touch the last sense of compassion. I’m so fucking sick of these talks…
